Our mission, our history, and the leaders who serve our church family.
To glorify the Savior, evangelize the sinner, edify the saint, encourage the suffering, and defend the least of these.
Ask not what your church can do for you; ask what you can do for your church.
Do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.
Since 1965, Greater Second Missionary Baptist Church has been a place where faith, family, and community come together. For generations, our church has served as a spiritual home for individuals and families throughout Chattanooga.
What began as a faithful gathering has grown into a ministry rooted in worship, biblical teaching, and community impact. Through every season, we have remained committed to sharing the Gospel, supporting one another, and being a light in our city.
For nearly 60 years, Greater Second has been a place of worship, leadership, and service in the community.
Meet the leaders who serve and guide our church family.
Lead pastor and spiritual leader of Greater Second.
We’d love to welcome you in person.
Senior Pastor
Reverend Dr. Steve A. Caudle, a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, serves as the Senior Pastor of Greater Second Missionary Baptist Church. He is a graduate of Lane College in Jackson, TN, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Dr. Caudle began his ministry in Chattanooga as a bi-vocational pastor, serving congregations in Philadelphia and Charleston, Tennessee. During this time, he also worked as a loan officer at American National Bank of Chattanooga and was elected Moderator of the Hiwassee Presbytery in 1990.
He later earned a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1995, where he pastored Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church and served in inner-city ministry through the STEP program. He then served as pastor of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Lakeland, Florida from 1996 to 2006, where he was involved in community organizations such as the NAACP and PEACE.
While in Florida, Dr. Caudle earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, specializing in leadership.
In 2006, Dr. Caudle returned to Chattanooga to serve as Senior Pastor of Greater Second. With a strong passion for youth and community outreach, he established programs such as AWANA and the Big-Hearted Angels Ministry, which supports children in need during the Christmas season.
Dr. Caudle married Deborah Delayne Davis in 1991, and together they have three children: Jessica, Kyndall, and Adam. In his free time, he enjoys writing, playing golf, and cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers and Tennessee Titans.
